Dinner after reaching your Tokyo hotel: Asakusa, Ueno and Tokyo Station

You have left your luggage at the hotel and can finally relax. You want a good meal in Japan, but do not feel like another long train journey. For your first evening, consider somewhere easy to reach from your hotel rather than choosing only by fame.

This page suggests unagi restaurants for travellers staying around Asakusa, Ueno or Tokyo Station. It is not a plan for visiting all three areas in one evening. Choose one restaurant close to where you are staying.

The first thing to check is the way back from the hotel.

Before you head out, save your hotel name and address, as well as the nearest station exit, on your smartphone. Even if you can find a restaurant on your way there, you may not always be able to find the way back to your hotel after your meal.

Next, compare the time you arrive at the store with the last order. Last orders are different from the time the building closes. Instead of rushing to a restaurant far from your accommodation area and arriving at a time when you can't order, it would be easier to choose a restaurant nearby.

Also, decide on your budget first. Eel is an option to make dinner special on this day, and it doesn't have to be a specialty for your day of arrival meal.

If you want to stay in Asakusa, Asakusa Unatetsu Asakusa Station main restaurant

The Asakusa Ekimae main store is located at 1-2-11 Hanakawado, Taito-ku, official information is from 11:00 to 21:00, and last order is 20:30. In addition to unaju, you can consider hitsumabushi and Shio hitsumabushi as stores where you can choose.¹²

Even if you are sightseeing on a different day from Sensoji Temple sightseeing during the day, it is a good option for dinner if your accommodation area is close. However, the walking time from the hotel varies depending on the address. Just because it's a hotel in Asakusa, don't think it's only a few minutes from the station.

The Kokusai Street store with the same name has been notified that it will be closed for the time being from September 1, 2026. The destination this time is Asakusa Ekimae main store. Make sure that the destination you booked matches the destination on the map before you depart.³

If you want to stay in Ueno, Izuei main restaurant

The candidate in Ueno is Izuei main restaurant, 2-12-22 Ueno, Taito-ku. According to the official store information, the hours are 11:00-21:00, and the last order is 20:15. When thinking about dining around Ueno, be sure to check the location of the ``main store'' without omitting the branch name.⁴

If you arrive at the hotel in the early afternoon and want to have a late lunch, it may be helpful to know that only unaju and kabayaki are available on weekdays from 15:00 to 16:30. Not all menu items can be ordered at any time during business hours.⁴

For Tokyo Station/Marunouchi, Komagata Maekawa Shin-Marunouchi Building branch

If you are looking for dinner in Marunouchi, Komagata Maekawa on the 5th floor of Shin-Marunouchi Building is a good option. The location is 1-5-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku. Please check which side of Tokyo Station you are on before heading there. Just because it's near Tokyo Station doesn't mean the hotel and store are on the same exit side.⁵

Dinner service begins at 5:00 p.m. Open until 23:00 from Monday to Saturday, but last order is 21:30. On Sundays and public holidays, orders are accepted until 22:00, and last order is 21:00. The key is to not go to a restaurant late just by looking at the closing time.⁶

After 5pm, a 10% service charge will be added to the displayed price. The start time is different from the Asakusa main store, and there are different conditions for private rooms. Please check the Shinmaru Building store information for reservations and accounting.⁶

There are nights when these three restaurants don't match.

If you have a small appetite, want to keep your budget low, or arrive late at the hotel, you don't have to force yourself to eat at this eel restaurant. Another option is to ask the front desk of your hotel, ``I'm looking for a restaurant nearby where I can eat right now,'' and look for options that can confirm business hours.

If you want to rest without going out, choose meals at your hotel or things you can buy in the area, following the instructions at the facility. Just because you can't make it to one famous restaurant on your arrival day doesn't mean your travel meal plans are a failure. You can also save the eel for lunch the next day.

Make a small connection to the next day's schedule

If an unagi dinner sparks your interest, read the dish-name and ordering guide. If you plan to visit Asakusa the next day, explore the half-day plan combining a temple visit with a meal. On your arrival evening, finding one thing to look forward to tomorrow is enough.

Part of the way to choose a meal is to be able to go back to the hotel without hesitation after a meal and get a good night's rest. Enjoy Tokyo from a famous restaurant far away, starting with a dinner that suits you and where you're staying.
