You have arrived in Japan and collected your luggage. You are hungry, but should you head to your Tokyo hotel before looking for a restaurant, or enjoy your first meal at the airport?
When eating at Narita Airport, the first question is not which restaurant is most popular, but whether arriving passengers can reach it from their terminal. This guide only includes restaurants in public areas before security that you can consider after immigration and customs. It is not intended for international transit passengers staying airside.

First, check the terminal and the time you want to depart.
At Narita Airport, the train station used for Terminal 1 and Terminals 2 and 3 is separated. There is not a separate train station in Terminal 3, but the information is to use Airport Terminal 2 Station. Consider both transportation for meals and transportation to the station to head to the hotel.1
Even if you're curious about the food in a different terminal, if you're tired after arriving, there's no need to make more trips just for that. Prioritize walking time with luggage, crowds, and time before train departure, and leave the option of eating nearby today.
Terminal 1: If you want to start from unaju, Kawatoyo Narita Airport store
Kawatoyo Narita Airport store is located in front of security on the 4th floor of Terminal 1 Central Building. This is a great option to choose eel at the airport before heading out to Narita. At the time of confirmation, the official airport information includes unaju "Bamboo" 4,500 yen.2
In addition to photos of the food, think about whether you will have time to sit and eat inside the airport. Check prices, availability, and wait times at the time of your visit. This page does not guarantee how many minutes it will take to finish eating from the time you arrive.
Business hours are listed from 8:00 to 20:30, last order. Payment options are cash, credit card, electronic money, and code payment. The conditions are different from Kawatoyo main restaurant near Naritasan. Even if the store name is the same, please do not just apply the payment methods and order process from the main store's article.2

Terminal 1: If you want to enjoy rice and soup stock, Dashi Chazuke En
There is also "Dashi Chazuke En" before the security check on the 4th floor of the same central building. The information at the time of confirmation includes 1,380 yen for sea bream dashi chazuke and 1,730 yen for eel hitsumabushi style dashi chazuke. Even if you are interested in eel, please choose it as a separate dish from the specialty restaurant unaju.3
It is a candidate for days when you feel like ``I want to enjoy rice and soup stock together.'' Please refer to the store's instructions for how to add the dashi and if there are any additions you can make. It is also important not to judge the ingredients of the soup stock or the compatibility with dietary restrictions just by the name of the dish.
Business hours are listed as 7:30-20:30 last order. Don't decide on nutrition or quantity based on the feeling that you're not hungry enough to eat ramen; choose based on the actual menu and the amount you want to eat.3
Terminal 2: For your first ramen, TOKYO TONKOTSU BASE
There is "TOKYO TONKOTSU BASE MADE by IPPUDO" in front of the security check on the 4th floor of the main building of Terminal 2. In the official guide, Tonkotsu Shiratou and Seiyu Soy Sauce are listed at 980 yen each. Whether you're interested in cloudy soup or want to start with a glass of soy sauce, you can use this as your starting point when choosing a menu.4
Don't just look for Ippudo in the store's name; check all the way to ``Terminal 2 Main Building, 4th Floor, Before Security Checks.'' It is important upon arrival not to head to a store in another restricted area of the airport.
Business hours are posted from 7:30 to 20:30 (last order). If you are arriving late, consider the time you will arrive at the store and the time you can order separately. It doesn't necessarily mean that you just need to arrive at the building before it closes.4

Prioritize proximity for Terminal 3 and late arrivals
This plan does not require you to travel from Terminal 3 to the Terminal 1 restaurants listed here. Check the local dining directory for somewhere open and convenient, or consider heading straight towards your hotel.
Additionally, the three listed restaurants cannot be used as late-night dining locations. If you're arriving late, it's a good idea to secure transportation to your hotel first and then choose a restaurant where you can check if it's open that day. You can reduce the burden on the day of arrival by just passing on the dishes you want to eat the next day.
A meal at the airport and a walk around Narita are separate plans.
For a visit to Kawatoyo main restaurant in the city, see the Narita stopover guide. This is an alternative to eating at the airport branch, rather than a suggestion to eat at both on the same arrival day.
Do you want to relax and eat at the airport, go into town if you have time, or go straight to the hotel? For your first meal in Japan, try starting somewhere you can comfortably enjoy it.
