A day trip from Tokyo to see Mount Fuji can also be a chance to enjoy the journey and a good meal. Take the Shinkansen to Mishima, combine sightseeing with an unagi meal, and leave open the option of returning by local trains via Atami.
This is a day-trip suggestion for seeing Mount Fuji from the Mishima side of Shizuoka Prefecture. It is separate from a trip to Lake Kawaguchi or a plan to climb Mount Fuji. Mishima Skywalk is promoted as a place to view Mount Fuji, but visibility depends on the weather.1

The main character of the day is the scenery and one meal.
On the route map, you can see the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Mishima, and the Tokaido Main Line from Mishima to Atami. Search for your travel dates and choose a train that stops at Mishima. The fact that a line is running is not the same as that all trains stop.2
The suggested restaurant for this plan is Sakuraya in Mishima, and the sightseeing option is Mishima Skywalk. The plan does not also add Shimizu fish dishes or Yui sakura shrimp on the same day. If you return by local trains, leave room in your schedule for the longer journey.
The overall timetable will change depending on the Shinkansen you choose, the day's bus, and meal reception status. This guide is not an itinerary that was actually measured on-site, but rather a proposal compiled from official transportation and store information.
Check Mt. Fuji and the bus before departure
Check Mishima Skywalk's opening information and the weather before deciding whether it suits your plans. Photographs cannot promise the same view on a day when clouds hide Mount Fuji. If seeing the mountain is your priority, keep the option of choosing another day. Check the admission price for your chosen date as well.1
Buses from Mishima Station are available from South Exit Platform 5. According to the timetable posted on the official access page, the journey time is approximately 30 minutes. However, the table linked at the time of confirmation is the October 2025 revised version. Please double check the timetable and return flight on your travel date.34
In case you have to wait a long time for the next bus after arriving at the station, check the connection not only to the Shinkansen but also to the bus. Be sure to check your return flight before departure, and decide on a time to return to the bus stop before you begin your tour.
Mishima Skywalk leaves time for return
Please separate the time to enjoy the scenery, time to take photos, and time to return to the bus stop. The speed at which you can get around the facility on foot, crowds, and weather conditions vary from person to person. If you have a fixed return trip for the day, it will be more relaxing if you don't pack in additional experiences while you're there.
Depending on the weather and business conditions, there may be a shortened plan to focus on eating at Mishima instead of going to tourist facilities. Don't think, ``I just got on the Shinkansen, so I have to carry out everything I planned,'' and give yourself enough energy to get back home.
Mishima's meal candidates are Sakuraya in Hirokoji Town
Sakuraya is located at 13-2 Hirokoji-cho, Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture. The store is not located in front of Mishima Station, so please consider transportation between the station and the store separately. Save the restaurant name and address on the map, and check which station to head to after your meal.5
The menu includes unadon, Jubako, kabayaki, shirayaki, etc. unadon and Jubako with the same number of fish have the same price on the official menu. Don't decide whether to be high-end or low-priced just by the name of the bowl, choose based on the quantity and the food you want to eat.6
Business hours are from 11:00 to 20:00, but there may be times when the event closes due to sold out, or there may be a break from 15:30 to 17:00 due to preparation. In addition to being closed on Wednesdays, there are also announcements on consecutive holidays, so please don't just plan to eat until 8:00 p.m.5
If your bus return time doesn't match the meal reception, consider eating the eel first or cutting your sightseeing short for the day. We do not guarantee seat reservations or waiting times as we have not confirmed them here. Please check with the store before deciding on your order for the day.

Return by local trains, or switch to the Shinkansen if you are tired
If you have time, take local trains from Mishima to Atami and then towards Tokyo. Check the destinations and transfers for the trains running that day. Do not assume that one train will cover the entire journey.2
In this plan, the local train journey itself is part of the return trip's enjoyment; extra sightseeing at intermediate stations is optional. Views of the sea or Mount Fuji from the train are not guaranteed.
If you're feeling tired, you can consider the shortcut option of returning by Shinkansen from Mishima or Atami. Check journey times, tickets, express tickets, seat availability and additional costs. Rather than assuming that you can travel the entire route with just one IC card, it is safer to tell the ticket office the section you are using and find out how to purchase and pay.

Rather than ``getting around everything'', make the day ``easily enjoyable''
Enjoy the scenery, have one meal and return to Tokyo at a relaxed pace. That can be enough for a rewarding day out. Change your plans if clouds gather, or shorten the journey home if waiting times are long. Leave that flexibility in your day of unagi and Mount Fuji views around Mishima.
